Each year, our annual toy drive and holiday celebration is such a special moment for the community. We feel really grateful to be hosting it again this year, and it’s going to be better than ever! This year, we have changed things up a bit to make it better and easier for our amazing community, but the premise is the same! Tips for Knowing if a Wedding Vendor is Trustworthy
Choosing a vendor for your upcoming big day is a huge decision. You don’t want to leave anything to chance, and you want to be sure that who you choose is reliable and going to follow through. Of course, mishaps and misunderstandings can happen, but there are steps you can take to try to find the best vendors that you can. Here are some of our best tips for finding vendors who will help you pull off your big day seamlessly:

Check reviews: Look for positive, thorough reviews for them on Yelp, Google, and Facebook. Ask friends if they’ve heard of the business/brand/service, and what they’ve heard. Do your research into whether their past brides and grooms have been happy and were satisfied with their services. Remember that sometimes, disgruntled customers leave unfair or unhelpful reviews, so look for the business’ response to these sorts of reviews for clarification.
Meet them in person: If you are able to, meeting a vendor in person is always wise. You want to gauge their personality, their efficiency, and their knowledge before the day rolls around. Many vendors will offer a phone call or in-person consultation for free or a service fee. Think about factors like: did they communicate with you well? Did they show up on time? Did they value your time and budget? These are all important questions.
Have they been around for awhile? If not, do they are have prior experience? If they are brand new and have no experience, it doesn’t mean they can’t produce amazing work. Everyone has to start somewhere. But, be sure to ask questions like: Have you been trained or licensed? Have you shadowed or been mentored by someone in the field? Have you worked at other weddings in the past?
Do you mesh well with them? Surprisingly, personalities do matter on the big day. Of course you want the best of the best for your wedding, but you also want to enjoy the people who are around you on the day of. Be sure that when you speak to the vendors or the representatives, that you feel listened to and cared about. It will make a huge difference on the day of your wedding that you have positive and efficient energy around you and your loved ones!
Ways Today’s Brides Now Thrive While Wedding Planning
Have you seen those little Facebook memes going around? They show a “before and after” photo, separated by ten years. I was reflecting recently on the last decade, and realizing how much things have changed for the amazing brides planning their wedding days. Here’s some of the (positive) ways that things are different these days than just a decade ago:
-Brides are a bit more focused on close relationships. Studies show that brides are having smaller ceremonies, and focusing on having the people who mean the most to them present at their big day. Because of this, many brides are splurging on more lavish ceremonies, but with less guests. This is actually so smart, because you can have the day you’ve dreamed of, and the people there who mean the most to you! Years ago, it was about having massive ceremonies, and often that meant skipping out on some amenities you dreamed of…not anymore!
-Brides know who they are: Many brides are focused (now more than ever) on showing off their personalities in their florals, or their wedding party outfits. Whether it’s non-traditional wedding dress colors (like a pretty blush hue or even a dark navy!), or choosing things like succulents or butterflies in your bouquet, today’s bride knows it’s less about trends, and more about what makes THEM happy!
-Brides value their mental health: With the rise in mental health support and resources, many brides have realized that their mental health really does matter! Instead of the old “bridezilla” stereotype, today’s brides-to-be are better at setting boundaries, speaking up, and making their wedding planning a joy, instead of a burden. Many have also opted to hire planners and designers (like me!) to keep their sanity intact.

Christmas Morning Cozy
Christmas morning is something that we all look forward to, but maybe no one as much as us moms (and dads). We love seeing the faces of our children or our loved ones light up as they unwrap gifts and gather together. It is a special moment that I wouldn’t trade for anything! But over the years, I have learned how to streamline and simplify our Christmas decor and the way the morning unfolds, in order to be present in the moment. Here are some of my best tips:

-Do a breakfast or brunch prep the night before: Of course we all love fresh cinnamon rolls or eggs and fruit, but many of these things can be prepped early on. I recommend cutting any fresh fruit (except bananas) the night before and putting it in a glass snap top container. Add a few drops of lemon juice to prevent any browning, and slice the bananas the morning of, which will keep them from getting soggy in the dish. For yeast or cinnamon rolls, they are easy to do the night before with just the dough or prepped in a glass pyrex, and bake them the morning of so they’re fresh and warm! Even raw eggs can be mixed with chopped veggies, cheese, and heavy cream, and put in a Tupperware overnight to be turned into an easy scramble in the morning.
-Move a trash can into the general gift-opening area, along with scissors! You will be able to really enjoy the gift-opening if you aren’t having to hop up and down a million times to get the things you may need. Of course, you don’t want a trashcan in all your pretty photos, so either use a little basket or tote, or move it out of the frame :)
-Set your table to be the place to gather after or before gift openings: The more comfortable your guests feel, the longer they will linger, and you will get the easy, beautiful and restful morning you long for! I like to layer my table with lots of different textures, and linens that are washable if little ones are going to be dining with us. That way, you don’t need to worry about things being too ‘fancy’ to enjoy. Opt for neutrals, and leave enough space for people to move around and chat. Always have an extra place setting set aside, in case an unexpected guest arrives and needs a place to sit!
-Cue up the playlist: Have friends and family put together some of their favorite holiday tunes before the big day, and put them into a super fun playlist! Have it ready to roll (and put it on repeat) before the festivities get underway, and set the mood with a scented candle, a crock pot of cocoa (add lids to cups for little ones to avoid spills near all the presents), and plenty of pillows or floor cushions for all the people you love!
Bridal Themes for 2021
Although we are still in the midst of the worldwide pandemic, many areas are beginning to open back up. So many brides have had to put their celebrations on the back burner because of COVID, but several have decided to pivot their celebrations to something smaller or more intimate, or choosing a creative location that can accommodate the restrictions on venues. It’s been challenging to be a bride in this uncertain time, but I am so impressed with the creativity and innovation that brides are bringing to their wedding days. I wanted to share some of the current wedding trends and colors…if you’re a bride-to-be, maybe you can find some inspiration for your upcoming day!

-Velvet Bridesmaid Dresses: You don’t have to look far to find the year’s trending fabric: velvet is having a major moment. We love the look and feel and the way it adds so much luxury and texture to the photos of your bridal party. If you want some gorgeous options, look no further than BHLDN, Anthropologie’s gorgeous wedding line. They have multiple styles and shades that will work for every member of your party.
-Unconventional Wedding Venues: Because of the limited amount of guests or unusual pandemic circumstances, many brides and grooms are opting for unique venues, such as boats, open air affairs with food carts, or even your own backyard. The need for open air spaces or spread out seating has made church weddings more difficult, as well as indoor, smaller venues. Some states are still restricting the ability to have events with crowds of any size, so creativity can go a long way towards making a new dream come to life.
-Sustainable Weddings: Many brides are more conscious these days with the impact that celebrations have on the environment. Some changes include things like digital-only wedding invitations, using locally sourced produce or farm to table food for catering, and ditching regular favors for things like plants or donations to charity in honor of your guests. Whether it’s something small, such as taking away straws for your reception drinks, or something larger, like using a venue that uses zero-waste policies, addressing your environmental impact is not just trendy, it’s commendable!
-Garland decor: You’ve probably seen the cascading garlands running down long tables, or turned into gorgeous archways. While greenery isn’t anything new, the garlands are more trendy this year. We love the oversized ones for the head tables, draped down onto the floor for extra drama. These kinds of garlands can also be made in whatever style you have for your wedding, including bohemian or farmhouse. You can also use live plants, which is another current trend, especially cactus for those boho brides!
Christmas Toy Drive at the Farm
One of the best parts of the holiday is getting to give back to others. As you know, here at our farm, we are beginning to host events and more…One of the best events we get to host each year is the Christmas Toy Drive. This year’s is the second annual drive, and last year’s was a huge success. The holiday event is a benefit for Salvation Army’s Toy Drive, in conjunction with Channel 12’s Season of Giving. Each attendee brings a toy, and at the end, all of the toys go to children in the community who are needy. I am so excited for this year’s lineup, which all takes place this Monday evening, December 9th. We have the following activities planned:
Holiday market supporting local business
Horse drawn carriage rides
Explore a fire truck
Face painting
Visit Santa and his elves and take photos
Reindeer visit
Dinner options from Las Palmas
Dessert
Hot cocoa
Music and more!
Rosewood vintage rentals is graciously providing the beautiful furniture pieces we will be using, and we are so grateful. If you are out and about, be sure to lend your business to some of the local vendors who are helping to make this event possible: Las Palmas, Snoball donuts, and Rosewood vintage rentals, among others! Last year, we were able to donate a whole SUV filled with toys to those in need, and we hope to surpass that goal this year.

Entertaining During the Holiday Break
If you’re a parent like me, entertaining others may be the last thing on your to-do list, and it may fill you with anxiety to think about piling people into your home when your kids get out of school. But entertaining doesn’t have to be stressful, and it can truly become a joy…take it from me! Yes, I love decorating and hostessing, but I know not everyone does, and I’ve learned some tips and tricks over the years for creating a place of rest amid the holiday hustle. Here are some ideas for creating memories with your loved ones this season (hint: they don’t have to always be in your house!)

-Host a gingerbread decorating party: This one is super simple, although it sounds complicated. Each guest or family brings their own house. The houses can be home-made if they are feeling crafty, or they can find a pre-made one somewhere like Trader Joes or even Target for about $10. One great tip is if you don’t plan to eat your house after you decorate it, you can also hot glue the sides together for maximum hold! This is helpful for little ones who are decorating and who aren’t quite as careful with the glueing. Obviously if you plan to eat your house, be sure to use something like Royal icing to construct it. We do this every year, and I provide all the decorations, such as frosting bags, candy, and other fun little items to make the houses festive. It’s a great way to bring everyone together, and to see all the different designs!
-Walk through a local town to look at lights: This one is the simplest idea of all because you don’t even have to clean your house (wink, wink!). Each year, we do this with friends and family in Ashland, Oregon. We get our favorite hot drink (cocoa), and do a tour of all the prettiest lights in the city. Afterwards, you could host a dessert bar, or simply bid your loved ones goodbye after the tour! Be sure to dress in warm layers. If you want to take it up a notch, use google to locate light trolleys, where you can ride around a city with ease!
-Keep it simple: These days, instagram and Pinterest can make hosting a holiday gathering feel daunting. But a meaningful night doesn’t have to include hand-written placecards. If you are unable or not wanting to cook a huge meal, considering getting take-out, putting it out on a beautiful set table, and tossing all the containers afterwards. With pretty dishes and a houseful of people you love, no one will care that you didn’t do the cooking, truly! You could do a rotisserie chicken from the store, with a heaping salad and a fresh loaf of bread, and make it as beautiful as a home-cooked meal. Pretty dishes and serving platters can amp up something store-bought to something truly memorable.
-Host a day to give back: It can be easy as parents to get caught up in the gift lists and to-do’s, but I know I always try to encourage my kids to focus on others who are less fortunate. I don’t do a perfect job, but it’s important to our family values. Consider hosting a night to pack up gifts for foster children, to volunteer in a shelter or soup kitchen, or to do gift wrapping for the elderly or those who may not be able to do it themselves. This is a really nice way to connect with the people that mean the most to you, and do something truly worthwhile.

Have you heard about the fires that raged through Napa Valley? It was one of the tragedies of 2017, alongside with all the other fire-ravaged areas in California. They left a trail of burnt landscape and scorched homes in its path, but the one of the biggest blows to the Napa Valley was to its reputation. This is so unfortunate, since I adore the wine country there. It’s one of the most gorgeous places on the planet, and it’s the perfect spot to have your dream wedding. And that’s the thing, these beautiful destinations were untouched by the fire, but all the news coverage painted a picture of a valley reduced to a wasteland. While it’s unfortunately true of some of the area, only 10 of the 1,200 wineries were destroyed or very damaged. Which means, Blissful Events is still open for business!

We are swapping out lightweight linens, crisp whites and citrus scents for the rich textures of fall, spicy candles, and rustic tones like oatmeal, pewter and burnt orange. These richly toned pumpkin pillows will add a quick burst of fall colors to a neutral room without a ton of expense. The intricate panel on each pillow is velvet, and you know I am all about the mix of textures! You can find them right here at Pottery Barn. We also like this pumpkin pillow and it’s watercolor look (it would look great on a grey or taupe couch, or a big cozy chair.
Nothing says “fall” like a big, woven basket. While Pottery Barn shows it filled with pinecones, we think this basket would be adorable filled with cozy throws! We love this cable-knit throw from Target (and it’s under $50) in the marigold color. Try pairing it up with a faux fur throw for a welcoming look. Don’t forget your table decor...after all, that’s where you’ll be serving up fabulous treats for Thanksgiving and all your holiday parties this fall. We really love the terra cotta pumpkins from Ballard Designs...they’re unexpected and elegant in their own way, and they look stunning with mercury pumpkin accents for a nice contrast. Add in taupe linens and rustic pieces for the perfect centerpiece that will leave your guests raving!

Today, I’m so delighted to share with you a brand new venture, offering Southern Oregon and the surrounding areas exclusive access to incredible furnishings! "Minery Rentals was born out of a strong design to see more luxury, modern and unique world traveled treasures to the Rogue Valley and surrounding areas. We love well-traveled pieces that come with a story, but our priority is rooted in quality as well. We’ve had a huge response from the local community, and are so thrilled to be involved in the wedding industry on an even deeper level, as well as events, home staging and styled photo shoots.”, explains owner Betsy Tomasello, who launched the curated and unique brand in 2015.

Hosting the Perfect Farm to Table Dinner Party
What better way to usher in summer sun, longer nights, and warmer temperatures than hosting a beautiful farm to table dinner? Gather up your friends and some good wine, and make it happen! We recently styled this gorgeous spread, and have a few tips for you as you plan your own!
-Be flexible: When working with local produce and farm-to-table recipes, you have to have a loosely planned menu in case an ingredient doesn’t pan out. Be flexible and keep your mind open to last minute changes.
-Prepare as much as you can ahead of time: Mason jars and other glass containers can hold dressings, drinks, and other side items that you want to prep early on. You want lots of time with your guests, and fresh food is why you are there!
-Don’t forget seasonal drinks! We love the idea of a basil lemonade, or fruit infused waters to add some extra flair to your menu. Large glass drink dispensers look beautiful wreathed in greenery and filled with pretty waters!
-Send your guests home with goodies! We whipped up some little preserve jars with mini wooden spoons, and tucked them inside strawberry containers for a reusable favor. Other ideas would be recipes (especially for the foods you served that evening), glass jars, pretty dishtowels, or soaps from local artisans.
-Lastly, set the mood! Beautiful lighting and styled decor (of course we love the look of ample greenery, crisp whites and linens, and simple glass cups with twine and burlap mixed in) can help make your guests feel at home and welcome. If you’re interested in professional styling, give me a call!
Weddings | Becoming an Allure Bride
Trend Watch | Faux Windowpanes
Have you seen the fun faux windowpanes popping up in decor lately? They’re so cute, and I’ve been dreaming up ways to incorporate them into my styling. I noticed them on HGTV’s Fixer Upper recently, where stylist Joanna Gaines used them to liven up one of her renovations. She always has great taste, and I’ve seen her add them in, mixed with greenery and other accents to work with the distressed wood. With this trend, you can do anything from a subtle photo frame with a windowpane style, to a full, vintage window with the glass removed.
You could use a simple photo frame like this floating windowpane one from Target like this one (for under $35!) to bring a subtle touch of the french inspiration to your home, or you could scour salvage yards for real vintage windows and bust out the glass panes. Make sure, if you find old windows at thrift stores or yard sales, to watch for shards of glass and splinters. Sand down rough edges and make sure it’s safe before mounting with heavy duty hardware!
You can also incorporate them into wedding or event decor! It takes a bit more planning and effort, but they can be hung as a beautiful backdrop for photos, or for a styled birthday or baby shower. Make sure you hang them from a strong beam or support so your guests don’t end up with one on their heads! Lastly, you can try a faux window as an alternative to a headboard! I saw this recently, but the example did not use a vintage window (I don’t think that would feel very nice to lean up against!), but they had a custom one made that looked like a windowpane.

From the Bride… Our wedding took place at a historical Farm in Southern Oregon. I was going for a beautiful rustic romantic blush wedding. We incorporated blush and ivory as our primary colors. We used vintage and romantic decor to create the perfectly beautiful palette for our romantic wedding.
The morning of the wedding it was pouring down rain. My wedding stylist, Terrie Day, called and notified me to my horror that we had to put up tents. I had dreamt of my beautiful reception area under the large oak trees with cafe lights strung about in a huge canopy. I was devastated by the weather. By the time I got in the model T to be driven down to my groom for our first look at the farm the weather had changed. The day was so romantic because of the rain in the morning and the sun came out right before the ceremony. It was as if God was shining down on us!

DREAMING OF PARIS | WEDDING | INSPIRATION
There’s a reason that Paris is the epitome of beauty, fine art, and style; the effortless charm seeps through everything, and we wanted to capture that feel with our shoot. We styled this modern parisian shoot with a few hints of bohemian flair, and kept it light and airy with colors like cream, blush, and gold. We anchored those breezy colors with touches of black. Our gorgeous model looked Paris-ready with her polished curls and ethereal headpiece. We wanted to capture the feel of an anticipatory bride awaiting her groom on the streets of one of the most romantic cities in the world…it almost feels like you have been swept right off to parisian streets, doesn’t it?
We also added lots of tulle to keep the airy feel, and to create the feeling of being weightless and fanciful. The tulle epaulets on the dress added a bit of fairy-tale romance, and balanced out the darker elements like the black and gold centerpieces.
