Set a Cozy Fall Table

As the weather changes and temperatures begin turning, I love the idea of cozying up around the table. The table has long since been the heart of our home, so a beautiful, elegant fall table where everyone is welcome is right up my alley. Here’s my steps to setting a lovely and welcoming autumn meal for the people you love:

-Start with linens: Layer up some gorgeous linens. Start with a neutral linen or cotton tablecloth, in a taupe or cream hue. Layer it with a table runner in rust or mustard, or another fall color like burgundy, and add some pretty placemats. The right linens are the beginning of a soft look that immediately puts people at ease. If you have a rustic style table that doesn’t work with tablecloths, bring in the softness with some cloth napkins and placemats.

-Add lighting: Candles, lanterns, or soft mood lighting can make a room feel like the right dimensions. It can make a huge vaulted room feel intimate and cozy, or it can brighten up a small space and make it feel bigger. Test out candles and lights to see how they look in the space you have. If you have tiny children around, opt for battery powered candles, so that everyone at dinner can enjoy a safe, stress-free dinner without preventing tiny hands from touching the flames!

-Make an amazing, fail proof recipe that takes all day: And by all day, choose a crock pot or dutch oven recipe that simmers all day and fills your house with amazing smells. We love the classic beef bourguignon by Ina Garten, slow cooked carefully in a real cast iron pot, and served with a crusty bread and bright green salad.

-Welcome everyone in! Serve the dishes out family style, and enjoy time with friends and family around the table. Dinner parties are kinda a lost art, where in the world of Instagram, they have to be ultra fancy or glamorous. We believe even the everyday can be special and meaningful!
