Home Trends for Tweens | Bedroom Decor Style Watch

Ah, the tween bedroom! That difficult stage where little kid decor doesn't make the cut, but it's not

quite right to transition into neutrals and subtle tones! Not to mention the costs of outfitting a room your child may outgrow rapidly; we are here to show you affordable, attractive and fun places to shop to make the most of your budget and the tastes of your pre-teen. Meet the tween room, and our techniques for decorating it to suit these transitional years:

First, always get the input of your pre-teen. Though you may cringe at their choices, like a zebra and hot pink themed room, or camouflage everywhere, helping them invest in the room will make it a place they want to be. Perhaps you can incorporate a zebra print pillow, or a subtle animal print lamp rather than a whole wall covered in the theme. We love Pottery Barn Teen for items both parents and their spunky kids can enjoy, and decor that you will love having in your home.

Check around for similar pieces that won't break the bank: This bright and cheery quilt is so pretty, and something that is both fun but also aesthetically pleasing. With pretty white linens, it can be the focal point for young lady's room and can move easily into a teen room. If the $169 price tag is too steep, consider choosing a bright and beautiful throw pillow selection from the pricier store, and opting for a fun, colorful quilt from somewhere like Target. This affordable chevron quilted cover comes in four solid colors and could be matched with Pottery Barn throw pillows.

Get your hands dirty (and enlist the help of your kid!) DIY projects are only rising in popularity, and you can find a litany of awesome items for dirt-cheap at places like Yard Sales and Goodwill. By using correct paint and primer (we recommend asking an experienced DIY'er rather than doing random projects off Pinterest), you can turn outdated items into affordable pieces that your child will feel attached to because they had a hand in creating them. Some good ideas for DIY's are: lamps, frames that can be turned into chalkboards or artwork displays, wooden chairs, and trinket items like jewelry boxes and mirrors.

No matter what you choose, we can help you put it all together. As one of Southern Oregon's premiere interior designers, we do projects of every size, including teen bedrooms, and if you have a vision but aren't sure how to execute it, we would love to help you. Contact us today at 541-301-6374!

Decor Trend Watch | Bathrooms

Left : Natural White Oak Plank Flooring | Middle:  Pottery Barn Holden Bath Accessories | Right: Terrie Day's Master Bath

When you're decorating your bathroom, you have to consider who will be using it (should it be kid friendly? Great for guests?), in order to choose the best and most stylish accessories that will work for you. We went to one of our favorite stores, Pottery Barn, which we love for their classic, tasteful stylings, for the best in new bath decor!

Stripes, always timeless, set the stage for a classically styled bathroom. The charcoal and white curtain, when paired with crisp whites and dark wood, is beautiful, and would be beautiful in a guest bathroom. The simple look requires little upkeep, and will stay nice for years without major renovations to the style. The curtain would look beautiful with additional white accessories like these.

For a children's bathroom, where items will take more wear-and-tear, you can still find stylish and pretty decor that will withstand toddlers and kids! For girls, we LOVE this shabby-chic inspired ruffle curtain from Pottery Barn. We would add in some simple bath mats to absorb bath time splashing, and maybe even this adorable footstool for those little ones reaching the sink! For the little guys, or a unisex bathroom, we would love this navy henley stripe shower curtain that would polish up any family bathroom.

For the master bath, a place of refuge and peace (hopefully!), we would choose this pretty, delicate grey and cream pattern curtain. Paired with pewter accessories and all-white linens, it would feel like a day at the spa! Grey is so soothing, but you could add in pale blues or teal greens to add some color and life to it, if your bedroom is also neutral hues. West Elm also has some gorgeous candles, similar to Anthropologies, that would work well in a soothing bath environment. This scent is amazing!

We would love to help you put together a bathroom you love! Contact us today for more information (please bear with us as our website undergoes changes).

a beautiful Christmas to you

During this time of year, it’s easy to get nostalgic, but I always do anyways!  I feel so thankful for the many friends and clients who have crossed my path this year. I still find it amazing that I’d be honored to enter into your lives and your homes to help make them special, beautiful, and practical for your family.  YOU truly are the greatest gift imaginable. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for allowing me that privilege.

From my family to yours, we wish you a beautiful Christmas and a very, very happy new year!

Decorating a Dorm Room | Trends to Watch

Dorm rooms are notorious for being ugly, stocked with immoveable furniture, and dingy walls. But there are now so many cute ways to decorate your dorm room, that ugly is so yesterday. We ran to one of our favorite retailers, Pottery Barn of course, and found the best dorm decor that is functional and fabulous.

These solid colored bins with piped edges are ON SALE (hooray!), and they are a great way to store things under a bed lifted up on risers. You need all the storage you can get, and these sturdy boxes hold a ton! They come in a ton of bright colors, but we like the neutrals for a streamlined look. Large ones can hold clothes, sports equipment, and books, while the small ones can stow power cords and DVD's. Snag a few extra for binders, papers, and documents!

This amazing little caddy attaches to your bed, and can hold slippers, papers, books, or even shoes like flats and sneakers. It's a space saving way to store flat-type  items. You can find these here.

We know this bedding set looks a little luxurious for a dorm room, and we are pretty sure it is a bedroom pictured, not a dorm! But, it's gorgeous, and it will surely last you four years with it's high quality and washable features. It comes with matching shams, but you could swap those out for something more affordable from Target in a solid navy. We also like the clean, chic look of this one.

Trend Watch | Faux Windowpanes

Have you seen the fun faux windowpanes popping up in decor lately? They’re so cute, and I’ve been dreaming up ways to incorporate them into my styling. I noticed them on HGTV’s Fixer Upper recently, where stylist Joanna Gaines used them to liven up one of her renovations. She always has great taste, and I’ve seen her add them in, mixed with greenery and other accents to work with the distressed wood. With this trend, you can do anything from a subtle photo frame with a windowpane style, to a full, vintage window with the glass removed.

You could use a simple photo frame like this floating windowpane one from Target like this one (for under $35!) to bring a subtle touch of the french inspiration to your home, or you could scour salvage yards for real vintage windows and bust out the glass panes. Make sure, if you find old windows at thrift stores or yard sales, to watch for shards of glass and splinters. Sand down rough edges and make sure it’s safe before mounting with heavy duty hardware!

You can also incorporate them into wedding or event decor! It takes a bit more planning and effort, but they can be hung as a beautiful backdrop for photos, or for a styled birthday or baby shower. Make sure you hang them from a strong beam or support so your guests don’t end up with one on their heads! Lastly, you can try a faux window as an alternative to a headboard! I saw this recently, but the example did not use a vintage window (I don’t think that would feel very nice to lean up against!), but they had a custom one made that looked like a windowpane.

How would you use this trend?

French Inspired Shabby Chic | Looks from Chairish

We were inspired by these chic looks from Chairish! If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a savvy new way to shop and purchase vintage and restored pieces of furniture and decor. They have some really unique pieces, and we had a hard time narrowing it down! But, given my love of shabby chic, french inspired decor, I decided to design a Shabby Chic look with some of my favorite pieces. I am always inspired by french decor; as they are always intentional and particular about the pieces they choose. There is a luxury and glamour in the minimalistic feel of most french designs, and that’s why I chose the pieces I did. The chairs and ottoman have a interesting texture appeal, and the tufting is sophisticated.

The provincial style sideboard adds a feminine flair, and the soft hues of the rug pulls the look together. This look would be perfect for a bedroom, or sitting area, and the antlers add a modern touch and a bit of an eclectic feel, and keep with the shabby chic look with a distressed finish. You could even split the pieces up with more modern decor and use them to add visual interest.

BLUSH | FARM STYLED | WEDDING

From the Bride… Our wedding took place at a historical Farm in Southern Oregon. I was going for a beautiful rustic romantic blush wedding. We incorporated blush and ivory as our primary colors. We used vintage and romantic decor to create the perfectly beautiful palette for our romantic wedding.

PG_PostLayout3.jpg

The morning of the wedding it was pouring down rain. My wedding stylist, Terrie Day,  called and notified me to my horror that we had to put up tents. I had dreamt of my beautiful reception area under the large oak trees with cafe lights strung about in a huge canopy. I was devastated by the weather. By the time I got in the model T to be driven down to my groom for our first look at the farm the weather had changed. The day was so romantic because of the rain in the morning and the sun came out right before the ceremony. It was as if God was shining down on us!

Getting Cozy for Fall

Fall and the changing temperatures tend to make us all want to cozy up! We start to crave hot chocolate, big scarves, and thick furry blankets. For me, I love to start out the new season with some subtle decor changes to make it feel cozier and more homey. I love a spicy scented candle, which always make it feel comfortable and cozy! Here's some of my favorite ways to add more of an autumn feel to your home.

Add texture: Even by simply adding cable knit and furry throw blankets in an oversized french market basket, you can cast a different look in a room. If you store pillow covers or vintage linens for the offseason, consider pulling them out  and mixing in more textured fabrics like velvets and linen mixed with contrasting patterns.

Add in small touches: It doesn't have to cost a ton to make your home feel cozy and transition from summer to fall. A simple display of  lit candles, and a few sprigs of dried eucalyptus added to the dining table, a nubby tweed throw pillow, a  knit throw draped on the sofa...all of these can add warmth and comfort to your living space.

Cozy up your bed: Bring back in your heavier linens, like down comforters and textured throw pillows. Add some low ambient lighting using lamps and antique books to dress your side tables.  Of course there is nothing better than a good nights sleep on a plush mattress like this one from Casper.  Tones like grey, linen, rust, and midnight blue will add depth and weight to your decor as well.

Kate Spade Inspired Wedding | Stylized Weddings

Every bride is beautiful, but sometimes there is just that something extra that makes a bride especially stunning. Kendall, the bride you will see below, overcame extraordinarily hard circumstances when cancer changed her world two years ago. So, her day was more than just a wedding day..it was a true celebration of her life, and the triumph she found. There was so much joy, so much emotion, and so much fun. This whimsical and elegant celebration was inspired by the bold contrasts of designer Kate Spade. Anchored by black and white neutrals, we added in lots of pink pops of color to meet the bride’s vision of what she wanted for the day. With some sparkle, some incredible flowers, and the effervescence of the bridal party, it was truly perfect. For the ceremony we hung striking panels of black and white stripes, and draped them with fresh flowers in deep and bright berry hues. With the chandelier added, it was both bold and lovely for a backdrop. Little black and gold tags marked off place settings, and the cake was a true work of art; dotted with shimmery fondant and wide, cream colored stripes. The overall look was stunning!  It was a beautiful, perfect day, and a reminder to truly treasure the gift of life.

Winter Merlot | Wedding | Inspiration

NikitaLeePhotography-1.jpg

A wedding in the winter seems so romantic to me! Think of deep red velvets in a rustic pine lodge with a cozy by-the-fireplace feel. That is what this bridal shoot reminds me of.  When Nikita of Nikita Lee Photography asked for me to join her in her vision of a rustic elegant wedding, I thought it would be so much fun to work with someone new and bring to life a stunning Winter Merlot Wedding! Thanks to ALL of the talented artists that made this shoot so beautiful!

Andrew and Nicole | Stylized Wedding | Formal Event Planning

When you fall in love, you begin picturing the day of your dreams. The day you say "I do", the moment you step into The Dress, the feel of that bouquet in your hands. All that imagining becomes reality on the day, your day...the wedding. This wedding truly was something from a dream...

With it's peachy, blush tones and the location nestled in the lush green background of Southern Oregon, it was picture-perfect. Andrew and Nicole said their vows to a forever love at a park in gorgeous Southern Oregon, and the result was an enchanting evening by the river. Nicole, the stunning bride, requested a mix of ivory, peach, and blush, paired with a  vision with glamorous gold. The gold stood out against the chic decor, and it all worked seamlessly. Gold chargers and plush, tufted chairs lent the elegant air, while the more rustic pergola kept the whole look grounded and natural. With flowers by Orchard Home B&B, it couldn't have been better.

"May your love be firm,
and may your dream of life together be a river between two shores -- by day bathed in sunlight, and by night illuminated from within. May the heron
carry news of you to the heavens, and the salmon bring the sea's blue grace. May your twin thoughts spiral upward
like leafy vines, like fiddle strings in the wind, and be as noble as the Douglas fir. May you never find yourselves back to back
without love pulling you around
into each other's arms."- James Bertolino

DREAMING OF PARIS | WEDDING | INSPIRATION

There’s a reason that Paris is the epitome of beauty, fine art, and style; the effortless charm seeps through everything, and we wanted to capture that feel with our shoot. We styled this modern parisian shoot with a few hints of bohemian flair, and kept it light and airy with colors like cream, blush, and gold. We anchored those breezy colors with touches of black. Our gorgeous model looked Paris-ready with her polished curls and ethereal headpiece. We wanted to capture the feel of an anticipatory bride awaiting her groom on the streets of one of the most romantic cities in the world…it almost feels like you have been swept right off to parisian streets, doesn’t it?

We also added lots of tulle to keep the airy feel, and to create the feeling of being weightless and fanciful. The tulle epaulets on the dress added a bit of fairy-tale romance, and balanced out the darker elements like the black and gold centerpieces. The gently curved and horizontal bouquet was dramatic but not too polished, and we kept the makeup on our model full of pouty pinks and delicate definition.

Boots and Blue Jeans | Weddings | Southern Oregon Wedding Planner

As we see it here at Allure with Decor, the perfect outfit is nothing more than a pair of faded blue jeans, brown suede boots, and a crisp white shirt. What’s not to LOVE about this easy combination? I teamed up with up with photographer Olivia Leigh to create a casually styled denim wedding, inspired by her favorite fabrics.  A rustic pine farm table was set with darker wood chargers, and then layered with two different patterned indigo napkins for interest. Topping off this look we added bright white dinnerware, some mint, and a sweet potted flower. The table was then set with a ruffled daisy garland, wood candlesticks and over-sized lanterns.  We hand-picked a trio of desserts in keeping with our casual theme; serving up mason jar blueberry shortcake, mint pistachio parfaits, and molasses cookies tied up with twine.  We had fun with coming up our version of a denim dress outfitted perfectly for this occasion.  The bride looks stunning in the tulle wedding gown fitted with a denim blouse and a brown woven belt.  I think adding your own personal style into your wedding day is what gives it flair! What could be more fun than choosing your personal favorite outfit to match?

Romantic Neutrals| Master Suite | Southern Oregon Interior Designer

Who says neutrals are boring?! I say they are SIMPLY elegant!  This Master Suite is truly a reflection of the owners of the home. Sweet. Calm. Lovely. Inspiring.  Can you tell I LOVE this couple? I have worked with them over many years, and feel very  blessed that they trusted me to make their master bedroom a retreat for them!  This room is monochromatic in color but filled with texture and pattern. The ruched bedding adds a touch of feminine romance to the otherwise masculine bed. The splash of color in this room comes in it’s most natural form…flowers!  Photos by Olivia Leigh Photography.

I could curl up in those chairs all day and read a Nicholas Sparks novel (if only the owners were gone for the week)!

Parisian | Bedroom | Southern Oregon Interior Designer

For this teenager, it was all about Sweet Parisian Dreams! We started with pout-pink walls and linen…Ooh la la! For this girl, who loves to read, a wing-back headboard and lounge seating gives her cozy options to curl up and read a book. I wanted something unique above her bed, so why not add local time and Paris time (like you might see in a train station in old Europe)? What girl wouldn’t want her very own Paris inspired bathroom! This marble top vanity is paired beautifully with a french market sign. Now if we only had some pastries! I am sure if the occupant of this room was around, she’d bake us up some treats!  Isn’t that the cutest dog ever!! She just had to sneak into the pictures!!! I think she makes the perfect accessory to such a soft, sophisticated room. Thank you Olivia with Olivia Leigh Photography for the photos!

Calming | Dining Room | Southern Oregon Interior Designer

Here’s an exclusive sneak peek into a dining room I am currently working on! Just a few short weeks ago, this very dining room had an old dark hutch and dining table, teal blue walls and floral printed fabrics! Now it is a calming, neutral space with a rustic smoky pine table and buffet. Now onto the accessories!! Photo credit: Olivia Leigh Photography
